PCR (polymerase chain reaction) utilizes the ability of naturally occurring DNA polymerases to extend short single-stranded primers that hybridize to the target template DNA. Despite its wide utility, most commercially available PCR reagents are remarkably similar, with any performance difference among them being attributed to differences in buffer formulation or enzyme concentration. These reagents contain wild-type enzymes, isolated from nature without modification.
